Why Choose Maidenhead Painters

Fitter-Ready Finish

Every surface is primed and finished before your kitchen fitter arrives. Units land on prepared walls.

Residue Assessment

When units come out, adhesive and tile residue stays. We prepare each surface before priming.

Trade Coordination

We confirm sequencing with your fitter, electrician, and plumber at the site visit.

SL6 Coverage

Crossrail-era townhouses, 1930s properties across Furze Platt, Boyn Hill, and Cookham.

Kitchen Renovation Decorating Services

Full Kitchen Refit Decoration

A full kitchen renovation strips the existing kitchen and refits a new kitchen on prepared walls. The decoration scope covers everything between the strip-out and the units going back in.

In Crossrail-era townhouses, developer kitchens are now failing at five to eight years. The plasterboard behind carries adhesive and tile adhesive residue that must be removed before any primer is applied. For kitchen cabinet respray as a separate option, see our kitchen cabinet painting page.

Mixed-Surface Decoration on Knock-Throughs

Where a kitchen renovation includes a knock-through to create an open-plan kitchen-diner, the decoration scope extends to the newly opened wall surfaces. A 1930s semi typically has original lime plaster in the reception room and new plasterboard at the knocked-through opening.

These two surfaces need different primers. The finish coat must read consistently across the boundary. For the wider home renovation context, see our home renovation page.

Mist Coat and First-Coat-on-Fresh-Plaster Protocol

Where plastering has been carried out, the fresh plaster must receive a mist coat before any standard emulsion. Skipping the mist coat causes uneven absorption and visible patching that cannot be corrected without stripping back to plaster.

We apply the mist coat as a standard step, included in the quote. Where the kitchen renovation is part of a wider extension project, see our house extensions page.

Sequencing with Other Trades

Decoration in a kitchen renovation runs in a defined sequence. Plasterer first, then mist coat, then finish emulsion. Finish emulsion is dry and hard before the kitchen fitter arrives. We confirm this sequencing plan with your fitter, electrician, and plumber at the outset.

Here’s How It Works

1. Site visit and scope agreement

We visit the property, assess every surface in the kitchen zone, and agree the full decoration scope. We note which surfaces are fresh plaster, which are existing plasterboard, and which carry residue. We confirm the sequencing plan with your kitchen fitter.

2. Surface preparation

Adhesive residue is removed from plasterboard where units have been stripped. Loose or hollow sections of existing plaster are stabilised. Surface boundaries between different substrate types are assessed and noted.

3. Priming

Fresh plaster receives a mist coat. Existing plasterboard receives a sealing primer. Lime plaster in older properties receives a breathable primer. Each surface gets the correct primer for its type.

4. Finish coats

We apply finish emulsion in the correct sequence — ceilings first, then walls. The finish is dry and hard before the kitchen fitter arrives on site.

5. Post-fit decoration

Where requested, we return after the kitchen is fitted to paint skirtings, architraves, and any surfaces exposed after the final unit positions are confirmed.

Surface Condition

Plasterboard with heavy adhesive residue takes longer to prepare than clean surfaces. Properties where the existing kitchen was poorly fitted often present more preparation work.

Fresh Plastering

A mist coat on fresh plaster is a straightforward additional step. Where significant re-plastering has been carried out, drying time and primer requirements extend the programme.

Knock-Through Scope

Where walls have been removed as part of the renovation, junction decoration at mixed substrate boundaries adds to the preparation time.

Trade insight: a full kitchen renovation on a Crossrail-era townhouse in central Maidenhead — strip-out, new units, appliances, tiling, plumbing, and full refit — typically runs GBP 14,000 to GBP 26,000 for the whole project. The decoration element typically runs GBP 1,800 to GBP 3,200. Call 01628 965566 for a written quotation.
